Interactive Video Conferencing (Polycom)

About Interactive Video Conferencing

Video conferencing utilizes synchronous two-way audio and two-way compressed video via the Internet. Utilizing special cameras, viewing monitors, and microphones at each location, faculty and students are able to interact with others at distant sites as easily as those located at their home campus.

Media Services  supports video conferencing facilities that offer the opportunity for students, faculty and staff to communicate with one another between campuses as well as other remote sites. These facilities can be used to record lectures for review or distance delivery,  team-teach classes between campuses, combine sections of classes, host guest speakers from around the world, and conduct meetings.

There are five installations of PolyCom video conferencing equipment at RWU including fixed units in the ITDC, three large lecture classrooms on the Bristol campus and a mobile unit at the Providence campus. There is also a fixed unit in the Administration Conference Room. For more information or to request use of this equipment please contact Media Services at avhelp@rwu.edu or phone  401-254-3336.
