Quick answers to student questions:

Where is my library barcode and why is it important?

•  On the back of your student ID

•  Identification for off-campus access to databases and interlibrary loan.

•  If you don't have a student ID – contact the Laurie Parkerson, the Outreach Librarian at 401-276-4813, lparkerson@rwu.edu , OR fill out the online form at http:// http://library.rwu.edu/eforms/patronform.php and send it to Laurie . You will receive a barcode electronically, and a paper copy will be mailed to you.

How can I access library resources online?

•  Go to the library home page at http://library.rwu.edu .

•  The quickest way to locate articles and other information on a particular subject is to select the Research by Subject Link from the library home page.

•  To search a library subscription database – just click on the link and enter your name and library barcode.

•  Your instructor may also have provided a special link to library resources related to your research within your Blackboard course site.

What is HELIN?

•  HELIN is a consortium of ten academic libraries in Rhode Island and nearby Massachusetts.

•  Search the HELIN library catalog to locate books and other materials at RWU and other HELIN libraries. (note: use article databases, not HELIN to find articles in journals on a particular topic)

•  You may request books be sent to the Providence campus through the online request . Simply indicate that you would like your book delivered to the RWU Metro campus (if that is the location that is most convenient to you).

What if the material I want isn't available at RWU?

For Books:

  • If the book is available in another HELIN library, click on HELIN Request from the book's record and fill in your name, library barcode, and pick-up location.
  • If the book is not available within HELIN, fill out the interlibrary loan request at: https://library.uri.edu/illb~S29/

For Articles

•  If you are using an online database, click on the full-text availability link to see if there is an electronic copy available. If not, choose the Request an article through interlibrary loan link, enter your information, and click submit.
