Media ResourcesThe CollectionThe audio visual collection consists of compact discs, videocassettes, and DVDs. Film and video rentals are handled by the Media Resources Librarian. The criteria for purchase and rental of media follow those of the Collection Development Policy of Roger Williams University Library: "... to provide a collection of materials that will support and enrich the undergraduate curriculum." The Media Resources Librarian has primary responsibility for the purchase of all audio visual materials. Videos and DVDs are arranged by the Library of Congress classification system (i.e. AV DEPT PN1997.D75 1997). Music CDs are identified by an internal accession number (i.e. AV Dept CD 90). Bring the Call # to the Circulation Desk where a worker will retrieve the item. The collection is not accessible for browsing without approval. Or come to the reference desk for assistance. Circulation of AV MaterialsThe video and compact disc collection are housed near the reference desk in the Main Library. Cataloged and accessible through the HELIN online system they can be searched by title or subject. Present the call number to the Circulation desk and the item will be checked out to you for a three (3) day loan period. Videos, DVDs and music CDs circulate to faculty and students affiliated with the university. Faculty affiliated with HELIN may only borrow materials if they come to the library in person. Materials do not circulate via the HELIN Request delivery system. See the HELIN Media Lending Practices to find out what videos other HELIN Libraries will lend. GenreSearching for a particular type of film? Use the keyword search such as feature films, documentary, English subtitles, hearing impaired, silent films. You can then limit or modify as above. Foreign Films Searching for an Italian or French film? Use the subject search or keyword feature using the MOTION PICTURE followed by the language selected. i.e. Motion Picture, Italian. Video Desk ReservesVideos and DVDs may be put on reserve at the Circulation desk by the instructor for the current semester. Requests to put items on reserve must be made in person at the Circulation desk or complete the online form. To assure availability , please place items on reserve early.
